Autotrader Better Search is a Chrome extension that overlays interactive market-distribution charts (price, mileage, year, body type, and other facets) on top of AutoTrader UK's own search results pages, and lets you filter your search by clicking or dragging a chart bar.
The extension does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data about you. It reads data that AutoTrader UK's own search-results page already displays publicly to you (listing prices, mileage, year, body type, and similar facet counts) purely in order to draw the charts. It does not read your AutoTrader account, your browsing history on other sites, or any personal or financial information.
The extension also stores a small set of your own UI preferences — which charts you've chosen to show, each chart window's position and size, whether you've hidden sponsored listing cards, and whether "developer mode" (see below) is turned on.
All of the above is stored locally on your device only, using Chrome's
chrome.storage.local API. It is never synced to Google's servers
(chrome.storage.sync is not used) and never leaves your device by default.
Page data is used solely to render the on-page charts and to apply the search filters you select. Your stored preferences are used solely to restore your chart layout and settings the next time you visit AutoTrader.
The extension includes an off-by-default "developer mode" toggle in its popup. If — and only
if — you explicitly turn this on, the extension will also send the same normalized market data
to a local server running on your own computer, at http://localhost:8787, so you
can analyze it yourself. This data never travels further than your own machine: it is not sent
to the developer of this extension or to any third party. Turning developer mode back off
immediately revokes the extension's permission to contact that local server.
This extension does not use any third-party services, analytics, or tracking of any kind.
No data collected or read by this extension is shared with any third party.
Stored preferences remain in Chrome's local extension storage until you remove them.
Uninstalling the extension, or clearing its storage via
chrome://extensions, deletes all of it. Nothing is retained anywhere else, since
nothing is sent anywhere else.
You can change or clear any stored preference at any time from the extension's popup, or remove all of it at once by uninstalling the extension.
If this extension's data practices change, this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date above will be revised accordingly.
